Project for 2 new wind turbines Eghezée

EDF Luminus, first challenger on the Belgian energy market, will present its new wind power project to the residents and local authorities of Eghezée today. The 2 planned wind turbines will supply 3,500 households with 14,000,000 kWh of green energy per annum.

Local residents are informed

Tonight, EDF Luminus will inform the residents and local authorities of its plans to build 2 wind turbines in Eghezée, next to the E-4111. During this meeting, those involved will be informed about the standard procedure and the planned environmental impact study. This study will be conducted by an independent consultancy and will take into account the remarks from local residents. The results will be made available to the public and the parties involved.

Positif impact on environment

When fully operational, the 2 wind turbines will supply 3,500 households with 14,000,000 kWh of electricity per annum. This will offset 6,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions of a conventional coal-fired power station. This is equivalent to preventing the emissions of 2,650 cars (1) or 980 homes (2). The maximum installed capacity of each wind turbine is 3.5 MW. During periods of no wind, peaking power plants will be run to meet electricity demand.

Historically a green energy producer and supplier

EDF Luminus has invested in the production of renewable energy for over fifty years. Over 14% of its energy production comes from renewable sources of Belgian origin. EDF Luminus is an ambitious market player in the wind power industry. With a total of 92 wind turbines, EDF Luminus generates 311 GWh of energy each year. This is equivalent to the energy consumption of about 78,000 households. EDF Luminus has also submitted applications for increasing its production capacity by over 100 MW of wind power.

(1)  Based on 15.000 km/year and an average emission of 152,5 9 CO2/km in Belgium

(2)  Based on an average emission of 6.150 kg/home
